Innovation Lab

Innovation Lab is a STEM-focused mentorship program in South & East LA designed to address the underrepresentation of LGBTQIA+ individuals in science and technology. Rooted in positive youth development, this program offers a safe, inclusive, and affirming space that fosters curiosity in young people, and inspires potential future careers in the STEM field by navigating challenges with accessibility, creativity, and community.
In this Lab, you’ll engage in hands-on learning across diverse topics like virtual reality, coding, robotics, and AI for social change – guided by LGBTQIA+ mentors with backgrounds in STEM.

  • Not at all! This Lab is meant for any and all skills levels in STEM, we’ll have mentors to help you along each step of the way.

  • Each week we’ll explore different STEM related activities and experiments, whether it’s using VR headsets to make a virtual world, creating your own bath bomb, or using AI to help record your very own podcast episode!

  • Whether you want to explore a future career in STEM, or just want a safe place to be yourself for a few hours while doing some fun activities, this Lab is for you!

  • The Lab is led by trained mentors who are LGBTQIA+ and passionate about helping youth feel confident, creative, and proud of who they are.

  • We host in-person sessions in East and South LA. We’ll share the location and details when the next Lab is scheduled.

  • No, everything is completely free for participants! Each week we’ll come in prepared with everything you’ll need to jump in and join us. Just bring yourself and a friend, or make some new ones while you’re here!

  • We provide snacks and beverages throughout the program.
