Sports Lab

Sports Lab promotes wellness, confidence, and connection through inclusive, sports-based youth development (SBYD) programming. Recognizing that LGBTQIA+ youth participate in sports at lower rates due to stigma and exclusion, this initiative offers affirming, team-oriented experiences where youth feel seen and supported.

In 2025, Rainbow Labs expanded the Lab to serve over 200 LGBTQIA+ youth ages 9–18 across four East and South LA sports programs. In addition to after-school clinics, our Youth Run Club in spring and Youth Softball League in summer create year-round opportunities for movement, resilience, and joy in community.

LGBTQ+ Youth Sports Clinics

Clinics are throughout Los Angeles County and are four times a year.

Our LGBTQ+ Youth friendly sports clinics are done in partnership with youth development providers and schools throughout Los Angeles County. Each clinic runs four hours. We bring in LGBTQ+ adults from sports leagues across Los Angeles County to help facilitate sports such as soccer, basketball, softball, dance, and much more.

All youth (LGBTQ+ and Allies) are welcome to participate. We structure these clinics for ages 13+ (middle school and high school aged youth.) Our goal is to expose youth to the idea that the LGBTQ+ community embraces the important life skills (such as team work and friendship) that sports teaches us when facilitated in an emotionally safe environment.

LGBTQ+ Youth Softball Team

Our Youth Softball Team meets twice per week from June - September.

In partnership with the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation through their Dodgers DreamTeam Program, youth participate in a nine-week softball program with their LGBTQ+ coach mentors.

  • How do you play softball?

  • How can both the physical and mental benefits of sports support me?

  • Who are sports leaders in the LGBTQ+ community?

  • Youths do not need prior experience in softball to participating.

  • All youth will gain both sports and life skills through this program.

We end this lab with a celebration jam where both coach mentors and youth will have the opportunity to celebrate their season’s successes.

Run Club

Run Club is twice a year for 7 weeks (Fall + Spring) in East Los Angeles.

Whether you're a seasoned sprinter or just curious about jogging for the first time, our LGBTQ+ Run Club is a fun and supportive way to move your body and connect with community. This isn’t about competition—it’s about joy, movement, and showing up as your full self.

You'll meet weekly with other LGBTQ+ youth and mentors to stretch, walk, jog, or run at your own pace. Every session includes time to check in, set goals, and celebrate progress—because every step counts.
